Description: This a bulletin board that would
work well for incoming freshman as well as returning
upper classmen. I live on a floor with a lot of international
students and they were often asking me were things
were located throughout the area. I thought it would
be a good idea for my first bulletin board of the
year to put up information about stores, restaurants,
etc. in the area surrounding the campus. I put tiny
flags on the map marking the location with lists of
contact information to the side. thus far I've had
nothing but good feedback from the residents.

Instructions/ Things you will need:
A map of the Campus and the surrounding area Scissors
Colored/white printer paper Butcher paper Stick on
Letters Stapler List of surrounding stores, restaurants,
etc. (I found the local newspapers website useful
in generating the list) Construction Paper (optional)
I covered the board with colored butcher paper. I
then cut out the map of the town with the campus highlighted
with a flag that said you are here. I then printed
out lists of the stores on different colored paper.
I colore coded the flags so that grocery stores were
green, hospitals and pharmacies were red, etc. I cut
out the flags and tapped them to the map were the
stores or restaurants were located. I stappled the
map to the board then surrounded it with color coded
lists giving telephone and address information for
the various shops. I used construction paper behind
the lists to make them "pop", but that is
optional. My handwriting is attrocious so I used the
sticky letters to make the title. I titled mine Dartmouth
at a Glance, but you would need to change the title
to suit your location, hence the xxx's in the title.
Other Considerations: -You can use plain white
paper instead of colored printer paper, but it does
look nicer with lots of colors, especially because
you can color code the flags.
-Use of construction paper is optional, but it really
helps to make the contact information stand out.
-The flags are difficult due to size constraints.
I wound up printing the names in 12 pt. font and then
cutting them into thin strips.
-I used 1.5 inch stick on letters, but feel free to
use whatever you like. I wasn't comfortable freehanding
as my handwriting is only so-so.
Have fun and let me know how it turns out if you
choose to try this bulletin board.
