Summer Placement Exchange

The Department of Residential Life at South Dakota State University is very excited to host the second Summer Placement Exchange (SPE) June 2-5, 2002. It is our goal to serve institutions and candidates in finding the right match for that unfilled or unexpected opening. The increasing need for a formal summer placement service was confirmed by both candidates and employers at last year's SPE. For optimum service and convenience, SPE is scheduled after most campuses have closed for the academic year, and yet is early enough to facilitate hiring for a July 1st start date, if necessary.

In past years, as the school year winds down, institutions learn of new positions, or of unexpected openings and have had to scramble to find qualified candidates. On the other hand, candidates that were unable to attend a placement exchange during the academic year or were unsuccessful in their original search have had to turn to the Internet or printed job listings.

SPE provides a face-to-face interview setting, offer alternatives to the Web or print listings and allow institutions to find candidates for those recently approved new positions.

Listings

Registrations that arrive before the May 10th deadline will be compiled, printed and mailed by Friday, May 15th. Registrations that arrive after the deadline will be available upon arrival to SPE. Each candidate will receive a copy of the employer's job listings, and employers will receive a copy of the candidate's listing. A Web site for listings is being worked on, but may not be up and running this year. We will inform paid registrants when this service is ready.

Candidates: Registration for candidates for SPE is $30.00. This fee includes your name and qualifications printed in the SPE candidate listings, SPE on-site mail service, full listing of employers, continental breakfast each day, on-site refreshments, the SPE social, parking and access to the shuttle service in Brookings. 

Employers: Employer registration is $100.00 for the first listing and interview room. This fee includes one listing, one interview room, SPE on-site mail service, full listing of candidates, continental breakfast each day, on-site refreshments, the SPE social, parking and access to the shuttle service in Brookings. Additional listings are available for $15.00 and additional interview/work rooms will be available for $50.00. 

Accommodations: On-campus housing will be available for candidates and employers in Bailey Hall which is the same building as the placement exchange. The cost is $10.00 per person/per night for a single bedroom in an apartment built. Bailey Hall is a smoke free residence hall. A listing of hotel accommodations for the city of Brookings is provided in the registration material and through the SPE Web page.
