 Room Change Process Information

Room Change Info from PSU
Room Change Procedure from NWU

Students are assigned their placements the first week of August.  Roommates are paired together and students without requests are done so as well.  If
there are any "student for student" swaps we can make, we do so before  opening.  If they are not happy and there is no clean swap to make, we ask them to sit through the housing freeze.  The housing freeze is at the beginning of the year that lasts 2 weeks which enables us to obtain counts for students.  During those 2 weeks, students come to the office with any concerns they may have and fill out a "Request to Change" form to move for
whatever reason they may have.  We then process the "Request to Change" form and try to accommodate each of their requests.  Requests are prioritized in
the order they were filed.  We also tend to honor requests that are easily swappable or clean.

Room changes are coordinated by Office of Residence Life through the Resident Assistants.  Resident Directors are notified through the Office
of Residence Life.  If students have room changes throughout the year that are student for student or are clean moves - in that they move into an open space - we
usually grant those requests.  I will fax you a copy of the "Request to Change" form on Monday.  Hope this
helps.  When I started this - it seemed less complicated.  Let me know if you have
any questions.

With the exception of extenuating circumstances (e.g., if we put a
smoker with a non-smoker by mistake), our room change period commences
on the third Monday of the fall semester (Sept. 11) through t At the end
of the fall semester, we have another room change period (for the spring
semester) that extends until the end of January.  After that, we again
rely on mediations/agreements unless it is a Our Area Coordinator for
Housing Operations coordinates the room change process.  He is the midst
of revising our form.

I hope this info is useful to you.

>1.  Do you have a room change period or are room changes constant?

Room changes are permitted after the the no-show date (the second day of
class) and continue up through finals week.  Room changes are free of
charge for the "first one."  It is $50 after that time.  Room changes
due to roommate conflict requre residents to attempt to resolve the
situation through mediation (either with the CA or Hall Director).

>2. do you prioritize room changes (ex. do you go by class year, gpa,
>need)?

Priority is by contract date.  The "older" a person's contract the
higher their priority (i.e., 6/10/00 is lower priority than 6/1/00)

>3.  Who coordinates room changes (RD, Assignments Coordinator,
>Assistant/Associate Director)?

Coordinated by the Hall Directors with coordination with the Assignments
Coordinator (who updats the computer data base that HDs do not have
access).

>4.  Do you have any copies of forms you could share with me via fax,
>e->mail attachment (MS 98), or snail mail?

If wished copies of our room change request card (green card) can be
mailed.

Just let me know.
