 Residence Hall Librarys

Has anyone attempted to do a book club in their residence halls.   If so I would appreciate the following knowing the following information.  Thank you for your time.

1.  How were the books provided to each resident?

2.  Where there any restrictions to who could participate?

3.   How successful was it in your opinion?

4.  How many people could participate

5.  What was the cost involved?

6.  Who paid for the books?

Lakecia,
I ran a book club about three or four years ago when I was a hall director. I thought it ran well. I targeted six to ten students who I thought it would be interested in participating. I think about eight decided to be a part of the group. The group was open to anyone else that wanted to "join." We did have a roommate of one of the people I targetted that was interested.
We as a group decided on the books (although I did comprise a booklist which included a brief description, number of pages, and approximate cost in case the ideas were sparse). We each spent a couple of minutes describing a book that we enjoyed. When everyone was finished we made a decision. Then each person was responsible for getting the book. I did offer to obtain enough copies for everyone and then they would pay me back but the people in the group decided that it would be easiest if each person got their own book. That seemed to work out and the cost wasn't much. Generally, the books were about seven - ten dollars each. We decided that we would give six weeks to read the book and then come together to discuss it.

The group was pretty informal. I merely organized it. I then had the group make all of the decisions related to it. They liked that.  Good luck. I had a blast with it.
