Due to rising enrollment and overcrowding in
the residence halls the
>University of Connecticut has decided to
develop a housing lottery. It is
>expected that we will only need to lottery
spaces to seniors, but believe
>me this is a big enough change for our campus,
where many students feel
>they are guaranteed housing for their entire
undergraduate program (no
>matter how may years that takes.) I would
like to see how other
>institutions structure their lotteries.
If your institution uses a housing
>lottery I would appreciate receiving information
about it. You can email
>me, respond using the listserv, or use snail
mail. All the information is in
>my signature at the end of this message. Thanks,

Get in touch with the folks at Boston College.
Unless things have changed
dramatically, I recall that they use a lottery
to determine which students
get 4 years guaranteed housing versus 3 years.
I think Bob Capalbo is the
person to talk to as he's been there for some
time and can give you a
history of the policy as well as the good,
the bad and the ugly regarding
implementation.
Good luck.
