Health and Safety Information from SUNY-Stony Brook

 Health and Safety Inspections

1. Please sign the sheet taped to the mailboxes as to which time you are inspecting which floors.

2. Post 24 hour notification signs on bulletin board and one bathroom door as close to 24 hours before inspections as possible. Please make sure that if you can’t make it exactly 24 hours before the inspection that you error on the side of longer than 24 hours.

3. Individual Room Inspection records must be filled out for each room. Please make sure that they are filled out completely. For the first inspections of the year, you must number the blank sheets in room # order and create a folder to house the forms (there might already be folders in the filing cabinet for each floor).

4. Individual Room Inspection Notification sheets must be left in EVERY room to alert the occupants that their room has been inspected (even if one or more of the occupants in present during the inspection). There are plenty of sheets in the metal filing system on our desk (half sheets).

5. Proper 48 hour notice must be given to all residents who violate the Student Conduct Code or Terms of Occupancy to return for a follow up inspection. Both RA’s must be present for the follow up.

6. Write all ICF’s and notify RHD of any suspicious items that residents would not allow you to see (hidden under beds, sheets or in closets). Failure to properly document a Health and Safety violation will result in documentation in your RA file and disciplinary actions will be taken.

7. If you have any questions, please contact your RHD as soon as possible.

Good Luck!

* You might want to take some work orders with you and have the residents fill them out while you are inspecting their rooms. Please put finished work orders in my box.
