Guest Visitation Policies

Hello,

We do not have a front desk system in any of our halls, however, we do
have only one controlled entrance. Only students that live in the
building can gain access to the building. Our visitation policy states
that Sun - Thurs guests without an overnight guest pass need to be out by
12:00 a.m. and Fri & Sat by 2:00 a.m.

While there is not a major problem with abuse of this policy we found
that most vandalism or obnoxious acts were occurring after visitation or
after the staff has gone to sleep. We are currently running a pilot
program of night staff at the front doors of each of the residence halls.
The staff is in place from 12:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. to ensure that only
residents are gaining access to the building. What we have learned in the
first two weeks is that our halls are still busy places after visitation.
The program does seem to be working.

Please let me know if you are in need of further information.

Our students are only required to sign in male guests (we are a women's
college.) They do so by filling out the sign-in/out sheets located on
each floor.

We have a student run Judicial Board that collect the sheets when they
are completely filled. Our students are "on their Honor" to sign in
their male guests as requested, while also being "on their Honor" to
turn in a contact report on any community member suspected of violating
the policy.

I feel the policy is fairly effective. The forms are rarely filled out
properly, but that is a battle we fight only when necessary. I think our
students feel it is too restrictive (!) while it works out for our
student leaders (RAs and Judicial Reps) because they don't have to
"police" the halls. The community polices itself. I have found that
parents aren't too happy with any men being in our halls, but that's
because it's a women's college. I personally feel that it works as well
as it can. No matter what kind of system there is, visitation violations
will always occur.

Social Regulations
Visitation
All Mary Baldwin College residence halls are locked 24 hours a day. Students must meet their guests at the door. Male guests must be signed in and escorted at all times.

? Safety
Propping doors or copying assigned keys jeopardizes the safety of all residents and is not allowed.

? Length of stay
All guests, men and women, may stay no longer than 72 hours or 3 consecutive nights.

? Residence Hall Male Visitation Hours
In order to provide as wide a variety of options as possible to students, who wish to entertain male visitors, not all residence halls operate under the same hours. Male visitation hours begin when the halls officially open for the academic year.

? Residence Halls with 24 hour visitation:
   Bowman House               Memorial Dorm
   Carriage House                McClung Dorm
   Crone House                    Tullidge Dorm
   Hawpe House                  Woodrow Terrace Apartments
   Kable Dorm                     Woodson II
   King Dorm

? Residence Halls with unrestricted weekends:
           Hilltop                            North Bailey

? The regular visitation hours are as follows:
     5:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday
1:00 p.m. – 1:45 a.m. Friday
10:00 a.m. – 1:45 a.m. Saturday
10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. Sunday

? Freshmen Visitation:
? Freshman Halls will have one selected weekend per month with regular
weekends during the fall semester. Visitation will be determined by the
following scale for spring semester based on the hall’s GPA:
      2.0 – 2.3 one weekend per month
      2.3 – 2.5 two weekends per month
                  2.5 – 2.7 three weekends per month
                  2.7 – 4.0 unrestricted weekends

? Spencer and Woodson regular visitation hours:
    10:00a.m. – 12 midnight, Sunday – Thursday
10:00a.m. – 2:00 a.m., Friday – Saturday

? Weekend Requests
Halls without 24-hour or unrestricted weekend visitation will select one weekend per month unrestricted male visitation through the use of sign-up sheets. If two-thirds of the hall requests a particular weekend, then they may turn in the sheet to their Judicial Board representative by 12 noon on the prior Wednesday.

? Examination Period
All male visitation will end at midnight on the Friday before exams. During this time period, women may have male visitors in the main lounges of Spencer and Woodson only during stated times. Male visitation will resume at 5:00 p.m. on the last day of exams.

Registration Procedures for Male Guests:
? Each residence hall, floor, apartment, or house has a registration sheet for male guests. Each male guest must be registered according to the information required on the guest sign-in sheet.
? Each student is allowed no more than three male visitors.
? Each male visitor to a residence hall must be registered and accompanied at all times by a Mary Baldwin student while in the residence hall.
? Any student who is aware of an unescorted or unregistered male visitor has the responsibility to ask him to leave the building immediately. If the problem persists or she feels intimidated, she should contact a security officer (Dial 0)
? Students and guests are to abide by College regulations and Virginia State Laws.
? All male guests, including male relatives, must leave the residence halls by closing hour stipulated for that hall. Students are encouraged to remind their guests to leave campus when the residence halls have closed. Any male found after hours loitering on campus, in a residence hall, or attempting to enter a residence hall, is subject to arrest by the Staunton Police.
MALE VISITATION IS A PRIVILEGE, AND ANY VIOLATIONS OF VISITATION REGULATIONS, WHILE VIEWED INDIVIDUALLY, MAY RESULT IN ACTION AGAINST THE ENTIRE HALL.
