50 GOALS TO A SUCCESSFUL BENDER HALL ASSISTANT
HALL COORINATOR

1. Attend all required AHC training and regular
meetings, and always be on time.
2. Help advise Bender Hall’s Programming Board,
and work closely with VP Laura Berger.
3. Help Bender Hall’s Programming Board become
a “Hall of the Month” at least once during the 1997-1998 school year, preferably
twice (once each semester). Also work with RIB by having RIB representatives
putting on a program in Bender Hall which explains and describes how RIB
awards are voted on and judged (i.e. Hall and house of the month/year).
4. Make door decks/ and or signs for all 11
Bender Hall RA’s, 4 DA’s, 5 Custodians, 7 Hall Executive Officers, 2 Hall
Coordinators and Secretary.
5. Co-advise Bender Hall Senate (with HC-Bob
Reason), and possibly help revise Bender Hall Constitution.
6. Provide on-going leadership training for
student government officers, and help coordinate a student government retreat
twice a year.
7. Recruit and select the desk assistant staff
for Bender Hall next year.
8. Develop and implement a comprehensive annual
evaluation of the four Bender Hall Desk Assistants.
9. Track, record, and maintain all RA and
other Bender Hall programs (sharing sheets).
10. Challenge RA’s and Bender Hall Programming
Board to set programming goals.
11. Provide information to the Hall Coordinator
for staff evaluations.
12. Have a good working honest relationship
with the Bender Hall Secretary (Andrea Stallman) and the Bender Hall Coordinator
(Bob Reason).
13. Assist the Bender Hall Coordinator in
the area of programming.
14. Put on at least two programs (hall wide)
per month in Bender Hall (one by the AHC and one by Bender Hall Programming
Board.
15. Create, maintain, distribute, and post
weekly Bender Hall “Things to do this week” lists.
16. Serve on two departmental committees (RAISE
and Fall 1998 Workshop).
17. Make weekly rounds around Bender Hall
(floors 2-12) to visit with RA’s and observe passive programming, as well
as making myself visible to Bender Hall residents.
18. Coordinate and create Bender Hall Desk
Assistant Shirts.
19. Coordinate and organize Bender Hall DA
meetings BI-weekly and make the Bender Hall Desk Staff feel like they are
part of the Bender Hall staff team.
20. Help Bender Hall Desk Staff work well
with Bender Hall RA’s and vice versa.
21. Possibly help Wes Heiar with the first
floor quiet lifestyle residents by helping making door decks and help with
lower Stone House programming.
22. Attend at least one program that each
RA puts on.
23. To become a great role model for Bender
Hall Staff (RA’s and DA’s).
24. Help advise RA’s in having a good working
relationship with their House Presidents and vice versa.
25. Create a Bender Hall Recognition Committee
that will recognize the outstanding contributions from all Bender Hall
Staff and Residents (i.e. DA of the month, RA of the month, custodian of
the month, resident of the Month, passive program of the month/best bulletin
board, and programs of the month.
26. The ability to accept constructive criticism
from supervisors and staff as well as give it honestly.
27. Assist the Bender Hall Coordinator in
every way possible to create an educational, culturally diverse, and extremely
social Resident Hall atmosphere.
28. Attend a few RAISEN sessions.
29. Put on at least one RAISE session per
semester.
30. Be able to stay both mentally and physically
strong by taking time off when needed (i.e. leave campus/Bender Hall at
least one weekend a month).
31. Help the Bender Hall Coordinator in training
RA’s by offering helpful advice during training and help organizing two
topics during training (programming goals and advising).
32. Attend all RA staff meetings, and providing
helpful and encouraging ideas and feedback.
33. Attend both Leadership Learnshops (both
Fall 1997 and Spring 1998 semesters), and bringing back useful information
back to Bender Hall Staff and Residents.
34. Put on a program at the Spring 1998 Leadership
Learnshop.
35. Attend at least one RA conference at another
university in the upper Midwest, and bring back helpful information and
ideas to implement here at UNI.
36. Always keep consistent scheduled office
hours, and keep my door open to all Bender Hall Staff and Residents.
37. Always look at both sides of an issue,
and keep an open mind in every single situation that I encounter at Bender
Hall.
38. Meet with the Bender Hall Coordinator
and Secretary at least once a week to discuss important issues.
39. Develop an open communicative relationship
with the Bender Hall Custodians.
40. Attend the first house meetings of all
11 houses with the Bender Hall Coordinator and Bender all President (introductions),
as well as attend a few randomly selected scheduled House Meetings.
41. Help the Department of Residence create
and maintain their Homepage on the WWW, as well as help each of the 10
Residence Halls and 99 Houses create their very own Homepages. This
will involve working with Robert Hartman, Nancy Lindgard, Hall Senates,
and RA’s.
42. Help Bender and Dancer Hall Senates and
Programming Boards come together and have a helpful programming relationship
throughout the year. Discourage damaging Bender versus Dancer rivalry,
and encourage a more helpful friendly relationship between the two halls.
This part of campus should be viewed as the “Towers”.
43. Fill out an accurate Bender Hall Assistant
Hall Coordinator Apartment inventory and condition report.
44. Help Bender Hall Coordinator order needed
office supplies.
45. Help Hall Coordinator and RA’s plan staff
retreat.
46. Help bring UNI Faculty into the Residence
Hall atmosphere (i.e. promote invite a UNI faculty to lunch program in
each hall).
47. Help encourage each Bender Hall House
Secretary’s to play an active role in being a liaison between the Towers
Dinning Center and the Towers Residence Halls (encourage them to attend
Diners Club).
48. Try to take as many pictures of Bender
Hall activities, programs, staff, etc. (possibly creating a Bender Hall
photography committee).
49. Create weekly little slips for RA’s to
put all over their houses (i.e. This week’s Bender Hall’s pride spirit
word of the week is SUCCESS, next week will be INVOLVED etc.).
50. And finally, realize that I may not achieve
every goal on this list, but if I know deep down that I at least tried
and gave it my all, I still succeeded at my goals!
