Recognition Ideas

Recognition Ideas:
These ideas are from emails and listserve discussions from all over:

Voicemail from central staff including the vice president and president.

Letters from the president and vice president, and/or the director of housing.

Res. Life office sponsored a desert night or "special dinner" in one of the dining halls.

Hall Directors put together a games night with ice cream and prizes

Hall Directors had games night/auction - RAs get raffle tickets throughout night to enter raffle for items donated from hall directors. These items included things like "one educational program," "one bulletin board," "food for a social program," "individual resume` tutorial," "three guitar lessons." The items were mainly services, not objects.

Massages: The residence life department can get someone to give ten minute massages during a specific time period, and if RAs want, they can come get one.

Send a letter to various campus offices where RAs interact or help and ask them to show their appreciation.  Responses or ideas include newspaper ads, a free meal at the food court, etc.

One idea is for offices to have various gifts and RAs afe given a coupon book with the name of the office and the time they can come to those offices to pick up their gifts.  That way they get around campus and have some fun.

We are actually planning a large event for the staff here; all 181 of us:

You're My Inspiration
"A Celebration of ourselves and each other"

A reception and dinner party in recognition of
International Residence Hall Student Staff Day

That is what I put on all the invites plus a little more.  We are doing three hours of Karaoke, dinner, et cetera.  We also to make it a little more fun we asked that "Semi-Formal Dress" to be optional--so we all look somewhat nice! - Western Michigan

Put up banners in the halls. ("Take time to thank your RA today!, it's international...")

Inform the residents of the day so they can do something for the RA.

Certificates of recognition

Put fliers on their doors

Give them a "goodie bag."

Hall Director makes dinner for staff.

Hall Director makes cards or small gifts for staff.

Party thrown by Hall Government.

Each floor put together a scrap book, one page per resident, about "Why I Appreciate My RA."

Huge floor card.

Take out a "thank you" ad in the campus newspaper with RAs names on it.

Fun staff activities

Special breakfast, lunch or dinner

Reception dinner w/cake.

Cookies or candy

Balloon and candy

Special door tags. (like stars - "You're a Star!")

Make 11x 17 signs with their name on it, decorated with something they like (ie if they like frogs, make it a frog sign).  Pass it around the floor and have residents sign it.

We write family members of the RAs and ask them to send letters to their RA acknowledging how hard they work.  Big hit.  Stonehill College
