Description:

I gave a list of items to the residents and sent them out on campus to see how many they could find in a certain amount of time.  Each item had a point total attachedto it, so that the hard to find things would be worth searching for.  At the end we had a tally party where all the residents told about the adventures they had that night.   Prizes were awarded to the winning team. This is a great way for the residents to make friends. We did this in a first-year complex during fall quarter and some of the
participants are still friends now.

Instructions/Things Needed:

We generated a list of about 100 items to give to the residents for their search. Most of the work for the RA is in the preperation time. The list and the prizes were obtained before hand. Give the residents around 1 1/2-2 hours for the search. Because very little was required of  me during the program, I was able to hold it on my duty night in between  my duty rounds.

Other Considerations:

-Make sure that you let your residents know that they are responsible for returning all of the items they collected from the various people on campus.  Suggest that they write down where everything came from. -Make a rule that the internet cannot be used. One group just spent the entire time in their room on the  computer. -Creativity should count. The residents came up with some interesting interpretations of the items. Just remember to be consistent when judging at the end. -Make your list interesting. It's  amazing what people have in their  rooms. Let your imagination go and see what happens.
