About

My Pot, My Plant

Program: My Pot, My Plant
Name:    Mandy Guss
School:  Western Kentucky University
email:   gussam@wku.edu

Description:

Each resident paints a pot with the design of their choice, then they choose a plant to put into the pot.

Instructions/Things Needed:

Small 2" ceramic pots
Acrylic paints (primary colors work well)
paint brushes of assorted sizes
Q-tips
Paper Plates
Plants (something that can live in low or mid-sunlight)
Potting Soil

Give each resident a pot and let them paint it.  You must keep the sticker on the bottom of the pot before planting, then you can remove it the first time you water the plant.  Then explain how to pot the plant and show them how to do it.  Also, explain how to help the plant grow (ie talking to it, playing music for it, when to water, etc.)

Other Considerations:

Remember your target population.  This is a program that is probably better suited for an all female or co-ed hall.  Also, consider how many people may come.  This program always draws a good crowd in my hall. Plan to have at least 20 or 30 pots and as many plants.
