About

Movie Night

ATTN!! Before you consider a movie night program, click here to read about some important legal considerations!

Program: movie night

Description:

The title pretty much explains it all, rent some videos and show them in the lobby. Movie night can have a certain theme (example: musicals, 80's movies -to relive childhood, Gangster movies...etc) or you can choose to rent the latest new release at blockbuster.   It really doesn't matter, most people are up for watching a video any time. Provide popcorn and cokes and you'll make them really happy!  note: I plan on doing an Audrey Hepburn movie night on Jan 20, because that was the day she passed away, and so it can serve as a memorial for all of her fans!

Instructions Things Needed:

Try to find people you know that own videos that you are interested in showing so that you can cut down on your budget a bit.  You will need a vcr, tv (duh) and a place to show the movies. READ LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS!

ADVERTISE!!!! flyers work sometimes, but they become invisible to most people. A fellow RA tried making very small notes (about 2inches square) and put them on her resident's doors, the people noticed them because they were not standard "flyer size"

Other Considerations:

Consider the needs of your audience, not to be biased or anything, but if you  are doing a program in the boys dorm, you may not want to play "sleepless in seattle"   Talk with your residents and find out what kind of movies they like.
Also, dare to show what most people might not like. There is always the small percentage that appreciates obscure things not noticed by the general public.  Try to cater to everyone!!!
