Money Can't Buy Me Love
Description: This project was used a few months into the year, when roomies begin to know each other well enough to be upset with each other sometimes, but also know enough about what makes them happy!
The idea: Each set of roomies will make something or do something nice for each other in a given time span.
The trick: No money!! Anyone can run out and buy a CD and call it good, so here, the only cash going out is for supplies if needed.
These gifts were original and from the heart rather than the same old Walmart gift card (which are normally great too)!
Instructions: Put up signs describing any rules such as, "No money except for supplies," and describing a deadline (give a couple weeks so that creative thoughts can stir up, rather than the easiest out). Basically just give the overall feel and hype up the opportunity to show some love!
Have a mandatory hall meeting (also advertised) and end with everyone sharing what his/her roommate did for him/her!
As we all know, food is a great addition!
Other Considerations: Things to consider: Do not use if your residents are in major conflict, it may turn out ugly. It would be nice in the early signs of trouble, however. In just this situation, a potential conflict was avoided with a little roommate appreciation and common ground for cheerful attitudes! It is absolutely great for overall hallway bonding, as everyone has something to smile about! I will never go a year without this project!
