Trick
or Treat |
Description:
This has been done a bunch of times around campus and is a great idea!
It works for us because we are in an urban setting. We invite
children from a homeless shelter, or other organization, to
Trick-or-Treat in the building. Residents sign up in advance and
have candy ready for the children who, guided by Res. Life staff, are escorted
throughout the building. knocking on doors.
Residents should be told in advance how many children are expected
so that they may buy the appropriate amount of candy.
Residents, and of course the children, are encouraged to dress up.
Instructions/Things Needed:
You need people who are willing to escort the children throughout the
building. You need a building that can accommodate this type of
acctivity. If your school has houses this could also
work.
Other Considerations:
We chose children from a homeless shelter because we wanted to
offer this opportunity to a group that otherwise would not have been
able to go Trick-or-Treating. This could also be done with
children from a dangerous neighbothood, for the same affect. It
is also a wonderful gesture if the group is not from an organization
mentioned above. Any group of children deserves and will enjoy
this program. Both the children and the residents will benefit
and feel wonderful!
This program also works well in conjunction with a Halloween door
decorating contest.
