About

Give Me a HAND

Name:    Meghan E. Ryan
School:  The University of Scranton
email:   megeryan@aol.com

Description:

As an introduction program with new college freshman girls, I wanted to encourage individuality and personal uniqueness from the start. Each resident was given a piece of Styrofoam poster board to trace their hand on. I provided markers, glitter & other decorations so that each could decorate it to represent themselves. We used each personalized hand to decorate our hallway. Each student was represented and their uniqueness was emphasized and supported. This was a great bonding experience and introduction activity because we got to know ourselves better as well as our dorm mates.

Instructions/Things Needed:

Supply residents with cardboard or sturdy paper, scissors, markers, paints, glitter & other decorating materials. Have each trace hand and decorate to express themselves. Each student can then explain their creation so that others will get to know them better. Use the decorated hands to add a personal flair to the dorm areas.

Other Considerations:

Encourage diversity and personal expressions!!!
