"The Sexy Scavenger Hunt". The program in itself does not
require much time or effort and it is more social than anything else, but still can be
tweaked to add more sexual awareness information. What I did was this:
1) Created Publicity for the event -- Flyers, Posters, etc. making use
of the "sexy" theme. Had a $100 first prize which really got people's
attention. $75 for second and $30 for third places.2) Created a Treasure List -- a
partial list of items serving as a sounding board... toys, magazines, pamphlets, etc with
a point value attached to each. The list wasn't complete, but it demonstrated approximate
point values, and if the item wasn't on the list it was clear that participants should
still bring the item to have points assessed at the end of the game. It was also noted
that info about SAFER sex was worth far more points than other items and that if an item
was creative or special it would be worth more than conventional items.
3) Held a meeting explaining the event and set up a time four days from
the inital meeting date in which participants would present their "treasures."
Very short... just enough time to explain and pass out treasure lists.
4) I didn't do this, but it would probably be a good idea to put up bright new posters
giving information about the time the treasures were to be brought back. This way you
would have an audience -- more people to watch. I lost quite a few teams, I think, just
because they forgot what day they were supposed to come back.
5) Get four or five people (maybe more depending on the # of teams) to help you tally
the scores. Make sure that scoring is being done fairly and make sure that only one person
has the sole role of assessing points for things not on the list... it prevents a lot of
confusion and complaints as well.
6) Tally the scores. Whoever has the most points win. At this point, it would be a good
idea to have a speaker or a game to play to add a little education in an otherwise social
event. The people that came and presented had a really good time and all around it was
just interesting to see what kind of stuff people could dig up in four days! We were kind
of late with the planning, but this was originally intended as an activity for National
Condom Week.
Hope you find this interesting. If you have questions, please contact
