Description: A cookie and milk discussion on body image. Followed by an episode of Nip/Tuck
Instructions: I publicized the program as a cookie and milk discussion on body image. Prior to the program I created a discussion body that had little quotes regarding the drive to live and words that spark thoughts regarding body image (body anguish, bulimia, anorexia, diet industry, and plastic surgery etc.). I then conducted a discussion by explaining the facts of what body image is, what anorexia is, what bulimia is, and the facts regarding plastic surgery. After doing this, we had a conversation regarding how it affects college students and the growing rate of elementary school kids that believe they are over weight. We finished off the discussion by explaining prices of plastic surgery operations. After the discussion we watched the weekly episode of Nip/Tuck.
Other Considerations: When doing this program make sure you understand this is a touchy subject. Many college students struggle with this problem and may get extremely upset regarding the topic. Also make sure you drive home the point guys struggle with these problems as well. Finally, I would tell you to have a hand out with places they can turn to if they may feel they have a problem or they know someone that may have a problem.
