Program: The Drinking Game
Physical, Social/A
Description:
This program was designed to give my residents information about the dangers of
binge drinking without lecturing them. I made a life size gameboard to fit the
commom area of my floor. Then, I compiled a list of about 120 questions within the topic
of drinking. I did this with the help of our Alcohol Awareness Counselor on campus. We put
the questions into four categories, 1) True/False, 2)Multiple Choice, 3)
Media, 4) Fill in the blank. I divided my floor into four teams. Each team was
required to select one person to be the "game piece" (to walk around
the gameboard)and one person to act as a liason between the
group and the gamepiece.
The teams each took turns rolling the die and moving to colored spaces on the
gameboard. Each color space represented a question category. I gave out candy when a team
answered a question correctly I gave each member a piece of candy. The team that reached
the last space on the board first won the game.
The gameboard was made to look like a spiral were the teams began on the outside of
the circle and finished in the middle. I used four colors for the spaces, to represent
each of the four categories. Overall the game was a great success and everyone involved
had a good time.
Instructions/Things Needed:
-Four shower curtain liners sewn together
-Magic Markers (to color the squares)
-About 120 questions about drinking in 4 categories.
-Candy(optional)
-Mocktails (optional)
-A host for the game, could be you, your RD, or an Alcohol Counselor
- 6-sided die with numbers 1-3 only, or a spinner
Other Considerations:
I would use a spinner with numbers 1-3 rather than a die. I made the die myself and I
found it was not weighted properly.
It is good to have extra questions, just in case you run out.
Question examples:
T/F A beer has the same amount of calories as a hotdog (T)
Multiple Choice: The organ that filters alcohol in the human body is:
a) stomach
b) intestines
c) liver
d) kidneys
Answer: C
Fill In: Two times the percentage of alcohol content in a drink is called . . .proof.
Media: "Tap The Rockies" Answer: Coors Light
(In this category you can use any beer/alcohol slogan you can think of.)
