Casino Night/Mocktails
Physical, Social
Description:
This program is pretty big, but worth it, if done right. Basically it's like a Casino
Night complete with play money, and even drinks (mocktails)
Instructions/Things Needed:
**Some Common Casino games (blackjack, roulette, etc..) and the RA's to run them.
**Play Money (Make your own and put some kind of unique marker so people can't counterfeit
it)
**A room with a "casino" atmosphere - this is up to you
**A blender, plastic disposable cocktail glasses, virgin drink mixes, ice, etc..
**Alcohol facts and figures/ Alcohol QUIZ (look on the net)
**Donated things (for the auction at the end)
Okay, once you have all this stuff, set it up at different tables around the room. Our
RA's dressed up in suits and cocktail dresses to make it more believable. When somebody
comes in, issue them some money (equal to all). A good idea would be to also set up a
"bank" where people can trade in their bills for other bills, etc... Then, just
let them play.
The bar, although in the same room, works seperately from the casino. In order to get a
drink, residents read over alcohol awareness material posted somewhere and then they take
a short quiz to see what they've learned. The drink "prices" can be based on
what they got right/wrong. This counts as an alcohol awareness program.
Let your "Casino" run for a few hours and then announce it will be closing down
shortly for the auction. This is where the money comes in. Gather all the stuff you've
gotten donated together, and then auction it off with the play money. Residents REALLY get
into this!
Other Considerations:
You may consider doing the mocktails and casino as different programs, but I've included
both of these because they add to each other's atmosphere.
Another great program to take pictures of (especially if the staff is all dressed up!)
