Study Bucks

Description:

Study Bucks is a program we have been doing for a couple of semesters in a primarily freshman hall. The main goal of the program is to encourage students to start good study habits and set a positive example for their floor mates. As Residence Life staff members see people studying when we go on rounds, etc. students are given a 'study buck'. Residents turn in their study bucks with their name and room number on it and they then get a little 'good job' note and treat in their mail box. These notes also tell residents that they have been entered in the month's study bucks drawing, where a few resident's names are pulled for a bigger prize at the end of the month (e.g. free pizzas, study break kits). This program has been a huge success- residents seem to really appreciate the encouragement and RA's like this too, because it gives them a chance to have a positive interaction with residents and the opportunity to reinforce the study habits their floors need to maintain. We have also done extra things along with the bucks, such as posting everyone's name who has turned in a buck, distributed little cards with campus tutor phone numbers on them, etc. Might even do some kind of awards for floor leaders or for floor that turned in the most bucks at hall council next semester...

Instructions/Things Needed:

Some kind of small study buck certificate or slip
confirmation notes
Prizes!!!- Try seeing if dining services, athletics, local restaurants, etc. are willing to donate items (but, some people also find crazy little toys from Wal Mart just as entertaining!)
