"Ladies Night" Women's Issues Program

Ladies Night

Description: Ladies Night is self explanatory. This program was a night where all of the ladies of Temple Ambler's East Hall to come out and enjoy food and mocktails while getting advice and discussing issues that exclusively affect women. We (Ambler's RAs) promoted an environment where the ladies felt comfortable with discussing personal issues that they have had to deal with. We discussed health and wellness issues and shared stories with the residents to promote a sense of comfort and support.

Instructions: Make sure that the event is well planned in advanced and hold it in an area that will be comforting to the attendees.

Be Sure to Include:
Mocktail Mix
Snacks (chips, candy, esp. gumballs)
Pizza
Other beverages (soda to mix Mocktails and juices) Ice and a blender for the Mocktails

I printed out a lot of information on Feminine Hygiene, Skin Care and advice for other Feminine issues. They make great handouts. Some of the ladies pinned them up in their rooms.

Here are some links that I used:

Other Considerations: Remember to make a safe, friendly and comfortable environment for them. (You know how it is when talking about personal issues around a number of people.) Also if males attend, remind them that the topics to be discussed are "graphic" and that it takes a lot for the ladies to openly talk about their personal issues. Also try getting someone from Student Health Empowerment to come and give a more detailed presentation. But then again, the residents feel more comfortable with the people that they know. A few of the best things about my Ladies Night was that the males who did attend gained a new respect, understanding and appreciation for the female; and that the ladies who did attend felt more comfortable with me. That helped, being that Ladies Night was one of my first programs as a new RA.
