About

Jerry Springer - LIVE!!

Name:    Brad Johnson
School:  University of North Carolina at Greensboro
email:   Brad_Johnson@uncg.edu

Description:

This program utilizes the popular show "Jerry Springer."  The staff divided up to "perform" 3 different scenarios that related to issues first-year students might face in their first year of college.  The scenarios that we chose were an acquaintance rape where the woman was the perpetrator who had assaulted a disabled male student; a roommate conflict concerning issues such as religion, hygiene, and other "common" roommate concerns; interracial dating and relationships in general.  Each scenario was followed by a "final thought," which was given by the Residence Coordinator who summed up the purpose of each scenario and the important concepts to take away from each one.

Instructions/Things Needed:

Chairs to create a stage.  Microphone if the room is large or you have a large audience.  A security officer helps with the realism of it all too!  Other props as needed according to the scenarios you present.

 Other Considerations:
We held the program after a fire drill to get a larger crowd.  We would have liked to have presented more scenarios to cover more topics, but decided instead to combine more than one issue/concern into each scenario.  Please be thoughtful in your "final thoughts," because the purpose of the program could get lost in all the "drama" that the staff can create while acting on stage.  Some of the issues may be presented in a light-hearted manner, but the final thoughts should bring proper focus and perspective to the issues being addressed.
