Prescription Party
Description:
I threw a party for the residents on my floor. When they arrived I had music playing and food out for them. After about 20 minutes I handed out different candies or drinks (all of which resembled date rape drugs). As the residents ate the candy or drank their drink I described to them what their body would be going through had they taken the real drug. I did this for about 4 date rape drugs. We then discussed how to avoid taking date rape drugs, from things like not leaving your drink, not accepting drinks from people you don't know, never leave a friend behind etc.
Instructions:
1) Research Date Rape Drugs; decide if the drug resembles any candies, or drinks ( I used salt water, mentos tic tacs and powdered sugar)
2) Advertise the Prescription Party but do not tell residents what the party is really about, they will come because it makes them curious 3)buy all the supplies, including normal food so that when they arrive they assume it is a normal floor social gathering
4) plan out which drugs to do first, and prepare a speech for each of them.
You should know what you are oging to say about how their body will feel, what the side effects are, how long the feelings can last, what the nick names of the drugs are etc.
5)throw the party, and after everyone has gotten comfortable in the room, hand out the candy or drinks, then start to give the talk. The residents, both boys and girls, will be more interested than you realize.
Other Considerations: I think the program ran very smoothly so I wouldn't change anything but my advice is prepare what are you going to say, for example "what you just ate was a mentos however mentos can resemble this date rape drug. Had you really just taken ________ your body would now....etc" Make it real and be honest, date rape drugs and their side effects can be scary but its better for the residents to know what they could really have to deal with.
