You Light Up My Life
Community Service
Name: Andrea M. Wilson

Description:
Around the holiday and winter seasons resident assistants struggle to
find ideas that incorporate community service and the holiday spirit.
Here is a way to do both. You can light up your hall (campus for
those that are very adventurous) and raise money for a local charity
at the same time.
Instructions/Things Needed:
A local charity that pledges can go to (if you are a themed hall try
to find a charity linked to your theme, ie women's hall--women's
shelter, wellness theme--national kidney foundation).
Copies of Pledge Sheets
TONS OF PUBLICITY AND WINTER SPIRIT.
Individual residents will need holiday lights.
**Remember to review your fire safety code on regulations concerning
holiday lights.
What to do...
Have residents pledge an amount or number either money or canned food,
or other necessities for every window in your hall that is lit with
holiday lights. If you have a rather large hall you may consider
every 2 or 3 windows.
Set a deadline in which the windows will be counted. Remember to
consider staff rooms and hall offices.
Have a week of collection for donations and submit your donations in a
timely manner to your charity.
**Some halls use the single lit candle style lights in windows, but
when we used the string sets, the results were beautiful and VERY
COLORFUL!
Other Considerations:
Combine as many resources as possible--other halls can offer
competition, and RHA's can offer great help! |
