Get to know you board

Program: Picture Board

Description: This is a great way to promote community in your hall, especially early in the year.  It is a bulletin board with all of your residents' pictures, along with their major, hometown, and interests.  You could have them provide the picture, but I suggest taking them yourself, for consistency, but more importantly, you get to know the residents as you go around taking their pictures.

What you need:
1) Roster - make a form that residents can fill out at a floor meeting with blanks for their name, major, hometown and interests.  This also serves the purpose of you finding more out about your residents.
2) Camera and film - in the following week or so, you can go around and get everyone's picture.  Even if your hall doesn't have a budget to compensate you for this, I think it is worth it!
3) Paper - find a fun way to mount the photos.  You can cut them into different shapes. (I put the pictures on white paper clouds that had the info on them)

Things I learned/Things to consider:
It might take a while to get pictures of all of your residents. (I had almost 50!)   Unlike some bulletin boards, people will look at this one!  If you want, you can recruit help for either taking the pictures or for helping you cut the shapes out. Also, people might want to "borrow" pictures from your board.  Encourage your floor to really take ownership (as with all aspects of your community) and approach anyone vandalizing.
