Drunk Driving, Alcohol Awareness,
Alcohol Education Bulletin Board
Description: About a year ago,
I lost a good friend in a drunk driving accident.
She had worked with me on state-wode programs to preven
our peers from driving under the influence and helped
to make a major impact among the youth she came in
contact with. One her birthday, I put up a bulletin
board saying "Happy Birthday Casey" and
a photo of her. Along side, I put her story and information
about what happened from www.caseygoodwin.org
as well as a personal statement of how this event
impacted my life as a college student. I also included
stats about alcohol related accidents and problems
in California along with information about how alcohol
inhibits ones senses and how it effects your body.
This passive program was well recieved and stirred
up discussion even though no one knew Casey and she
did not attend our university.
Instructions:
-Gathered information and articles about Casey (or
any other local college student killed as a result
of an alcohol related accident) as well as photos.
-Research as to how alcohol effects the human body.
-Posted it in a well trafficed area of our building.
-Make it personal! Use a story where someone know's
the person or family member involved. Our residents
enjoied the fact that one of the RA's was honest with
how this affected her.
Be sure to make it personl and straight forward.
Considerations:
In the future, I would add more information as to
how much alcohol can do different things in different
bodies, as well as statistics on alcohol related incidents
on or around my campus.
Yes, you may publish my email address
