Description: Because I have six bulletin boards
on my floor, filling them all can be a little
challenging. So, in the beginning of the school year I
began three semi-permanent boards. (I have 2 large
boards and 4 small ones, and these work well on the
smaller ones.) For one board, I posted a sign saying
"Happy Birthday..." then the month. The I put
each resident's name on a piece of paper who had a
birthday in that month.
Another small board I use to focus on a few residents
each month. I put myself on the board in August, with my
major, birthday, favorite food, color, activities,
bands, movies, ect. Then I got the residents to fill out
forms with all of their favorite things at one of our
meetings.
A third small board is used to focus on campus
organizations. I try to do larger organization that are
open to most residents. Since you only have to change a
few things on these boards every month, they're both
easy for you and interesting and informational for your
residents.
Instructions, Things Needed:
a computer (helps a LOT)
construction paper
info about campus organizations (you can probably get it
off your school's website, or just contact the
organization)
stapler
Other Considerations: It may be beneficial to
combine shorter months (the ones you're not there for
much) with other ones, such as August-September,
December-January, May-June-July, ect.
For the resident focus board, make sure you divide the
residents into somewhat equal groups (I do about 4 a
month), so you can fit everyone in before the end of the
academic year. Example for organizations board: Resident
Hall Association would be good, Society of Professional
Journalists may not, since it's a little TOO focused.
