Real
World Student Success Seminar
Overview
& Purpose:
- Would
you like to eliminate student apathy among your student
leaders?
- Would
you like to motivate and inspire your student leaders
so they can lead others?
- Would
you like to see your students lead, learn, and live
more responsibly on and off campus?
Well, student leaders are not
born!
Contrary
to popular opinion, leaders are not born, they’re
trained and developed. Even the country’s top student
leaders weren’t always great leaders. Instead, these
students made the journey from college student to “student
leader” by making the most of their talents, learning
and applying new skills, and developing their leadership
abilities.
Through
this training process, they learned new ways to influence,
motivate, and build relationships. They conquered problems
and setbacks that would have stifled most.
And through experience and leadership development,
they learned how to create and inspire powerful teams.
Empower
your student leaders!
The
Real World Student Leadership Success Seminar
is designed to empower student leaders to make a difference.
This program is full of real world examples,
practical methods, and proven strategies.
Every one of the seven sessions
is packed with ideas and tips that will help your student
leaders produce immediate results on your campus, as
well as in the classroom. So whether your students are
experienced leaders looking for new ways to motivate
others or novices wanting to enhance their leadership
role – this powerful seminar program is one you don’t
want your student staff to miss.

by example instead of excuses.

One
of your most difficult roles as a student leader probably
isn’t the job itself…it’s that of a problem solver.

more and more opportunities to either prove yourself
or expose your weaknesses. This session will help you
logically sort through the complexities of problems
and develop win-win solutions. You will learn how to:

problems as opportunities instead of obstacles.

your team/students solve their own problems.

5: Becoming
the Complete Team Player
Focus:
Your Team Building Skills - Facilitator:
Dan Oltersdorf
When
it comes to leadership, there’s no such thing as a self-made
success. The moment you think you can do it alone is
the moment you’ll be doing it alone. There’s no “I”
in the word “TEAM,” and the speed of the leader will
determine the rate of the pack. You need others and
they need you. In this session, you will learn how to:
- Put
the team’s needs before your own.
- Share
the spotlight with others so all of you will shine.
- Become
your team’s biggest cheerleader as well as their favorite
coach.

6:
Connecting with Your Peers
Focus:
Your Communication Skills
- Facilitators:
Dan Oltersdorf and/or Professor Joe Martin
Eighty-seven
(87%) percent of all success in any organization is
directly related to people skills. Even if you’re the
hardest working and most gifted person on your team,
no one will follow you unless they first trust and like
you. Even if you’re not a “people person,” you can still
be an effective leader. In this session, you will learn
how to:
- Get
others to give you what you need to succeed.
- Build
credibility and mutual respect with your team.
- Get
along with almost anybody any time.

point. Based
on his book “Tricks of the Grade,” you will learn the
strategies that helped Professor Joe Martin graduate
at the top of his class and get voted “Student of the
Year” in spite of low standardized test scores.
In this session, you will learn how to:

yourself for better grades on the first day of class.
