Attempted
Suicide
|
I had a
resident on my floor attempt suicide about half way
through the fall semester of this year. One thing that
is very important to do is to talk to the residents
that are involved. They may feel "weird" when
it comes to daily interactions with the suicidal resident.
I have had to deal with suicide on a first hand basis
and people get caught up on what to say and what to
do. They don't know if it is right to ask questions
and if they should even approach that person at all,
about anything. It is important to offer these students
resources (ie psychological services) or after words
do some sort of program on depression/suicide, or even
just a bulletin board about basic facts of suicide and
depression. Thanks Kimberly Crowell, RA
University of Nevada Las Vegas. |
